i connected the hdmi cable to external GPU, VIVE is working. ( Desktop to link box) so, 'compositor is not available' Error is presentating SteamVR. I have updated HTC Vive software, entirely up to date, my Chipset drivers are entirely up to date, the problem is easily reproducible, just install Adrenalin driver 21.8.2 or earlier and everything is fine, anything newer than that driver breaks support. I think the problem is not HDMI in general, it was probably just a bad cable so the composer could not start or crashed immediately. I connected the hdmi cable to the main board. Power cycle the link box Step 1: Shut down SteamVR. if you have a dvi and hdmi only, buy a dvi to hdmi 'd' adaptor. also make sure monitor and vive is connected to the same graphics card. you would need to go into bios and disable onboard graphics chip and tell bios to boot from pcie first. Windows is up to date, clearly something changed between 21.8.2 and 21.9.1 that breaks HTC Vive support, it doesn't matter if the HTC Vive is plugged into Display Port or HDMI, it will NOT work post 21.8.2 driver. ago I recently had the same issue and resolved it by changing the HDMI cable between GPU and Linkbox with a DisplayPort to MiniDisplayPort cable. I have read compatibility issues and some improvements and fixes throughout the beta time. After unboxing and connecting all the hardware I started Steam VR, got green icons for all the 5 hardware items, but Steam VR still shows Not Ready, with the error message Compositor is not avaiable. Nothing is wrong with my cables, I have tried two. Was updating Radeon drivers on my machine and discovered a problem with latest drivers and HTC Vive support, everything works fine on Adrenalin driver 21.8.2 and before, but from Adrenalin driver 21.9.1 onward, HTC Vive support is broken, giving the following error: Headset Display Disconnected - "Please make sure your video cables are securely connected.
